THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT POSITION
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to the Environmental Services Manager. In accordance with established Policies and Procedures, performs corrective and preventative cleaning procedures necessary to maintain the facility in an orderly, sanitary and attractive condition. Responsible for the safe pick up and transport of all infectious, solid and recyclable waste from holding areas to the incinerator, compactor or storage areas. Transports clean and soiled linen. Visibly supports the mission and vision of St. Elizabeth Health Center.

EDUCATION:
Potential exposure to blood and body fluids and infectious conditions.
Potential exposure to falls and strains.
Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, cleaning agent fumes and all-weather conditions.
Frequent to prolonged standing, walking and moderate lifting.
Potential exposure to sharp objects.
EXPERIENCE:
The ability to follow oral instructions.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Excellent interpersonal skills for daily interaction in a courteous manner with patients, physicians, visitors and other
employees.
- Physical ability to withstand frequent to prolonged lifting, standing, pushing, pulling and walking; physical ability to utilize various pieces of transport equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers, etc., mental ability to operate under potentially stressful
or emergency situations; judgment in order to assess potentially unsafe situations; courtesy in dealing with patients, visitors and staff.
- Ability to exercise proper dilution ratios of chemicals and recommend cost savings in supply usage.
The degree to which judgment and analysis must be exercised in planning, investigating issues, and evaluating alternative solutions to the challenges posed by the job. Deals with the nature of the
decisions, the variety of problems, and how decisions are made in context of the typical requirements of the job.
- A level of knowledge to provide the skills necessary to read and understand signs, warning notices and work instructions and to write to complete necessary work forms.
The nature and frequency of interpersonal human relations skills required by the job. The extent to which the job requires cooperation and tact in meeting or influencing others by phone, correspondence, or personal contact.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to interact effectively with Nursing and other key user departments of the transport service.
Excellent organizational skills to enable effective prioritization of ongoing requests.
Excellent judgment ability in order to promptly and effectively respond to STAT or unpredictable requests and activity.
The ability to provide and follow written and oral instructions.
PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Note: May be required to perform any/all of the following duties as assigned:
A. Patient and Guest Relations
- Adheres to all Hospital and Departmental standards for Patient and Guest Relations,
displaying a positive and customer focused attitude at all times.
- Promotes a positive image of St. Elizabeth’s Health Center at all times.
B. Corrective Cleaning
Strips or scrubs, seals and/or recoats hard surface areas.
Shampoos, spin bonnets and extracts carpeted surfaces.
Washes walls, windows, vents and other areas.
Removes and draperies and cubicles.
C. Waste Removal
- Transports hazardous waste in a safe manner from the point of origin to approved
holding areas.
- Transports solid and recyclable waste in a safe manner from the point of origin to
approved holding areas.
D. Patient Area Cleaning
Provides preventative cleaning service for occupied patient areas.
Performs discharge cleaning of patient areas.
Cleans, disinfects and makes beds, cribs and isolettes.
E. Special Patient Area Cleaning
- Provides cleaning service to the OR, ED, NICU, Labor and Delivery and other special
or critical patient areas both inpatient and outpatient.
Performs isolation cleaning procedures.
Performs between case, terminal and cycle cleaning procedures.
Cleans delicate patient equipment and monitors.
F. Public Areas / Support Area Cleaning
- Provides cleaning service for restrooms, elevators, stairwells, lobbies, waiting areas and
other support or ancillary areas.
- Performs preventative cleaning for hard surface and carpeted areas.
G. Linen Transport
Delivers clean linen to approved holding areas.
Transports soiled linen to holding areas and from holding areas to the soiled dock.
Transports and relocates furniture, beds, boxes and other equipment.
Cleans wheelchairs, stretchers, IV poles, refrigerators and other general equipment.
Maintains equipment and work areas.
Responds to floods and other emergency requests.
Observes, notes and reports potential safety issues or facility improvement requests to the Engineering and Maintenance Department.
May perform infrequent patient transport duties on the night shift if required.
Performs other duties as required.

SHIFT/SCHEDULE
Full time - This position is scheduled 40 hours per week.
Shift Time - This position works a variable work shift schedule, primarily PM shift.
This position will have scheduled shifts every other weekend and every other holiday rotation.
