Job Description

Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center - Full Time - Nights

Performs all maintenance activities and tasks associated with a healthcare facility, troubleshooting and problem-solving, installation, repair and/or replacing, installing equipment and components, or systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Must have a minimum of three (3) years healthcare facility and equipment maintenance experience, or a journeyman’s license from an approved/accredited authority, or have three (3) years of experience in an area directly related to healthcare facility maintenance.

  2. A relatively high level of maintenance knowledge and expertise is required.

  3. Work is not completely standardized. Assignments and tasks are often of an urgent or demanding nature.

  4. A good level of interpersonal skill is required. Incumbents must be able to communicate and interact with other personnel during a demanding and stressful situation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Subject to unpleasant work exposure; close, cramped quarters, hot and cold temperatures, noise, dusty or wet environments; use of ladders and heights; exposure to hazardous materials and conditions; steam, water, gas, electricity, and moving parts or components, stressful both physically and mentally.

  2. Occasionally demanding work, heavy, hard, requiring physical strength and stamina.

  3. Varied work hours and shifts, weekend and holiday schedule.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Takes a lead role in activities. Provides leadership role, especially when working with peers of lesser expertise or qualifications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of tasks associated with healthcare facility equipment, systems and facility maintenance and upkeep.

Plans daily work assignments through department scheduled and non-scheduled work order systems.

Performs tasks and activities in all areas of maintenance responsibility, i.e., water stream, electricity, HVAC, mechanical, grounds, and structural.

Completes departmental documentation for up-dates of as-built prints, inventory levels, daily work logs, and department record keeping.

Participates in departmental in-service training programs.

Provides off-shift and weekend coverage as scheduled.

Performs assignments and tasks under coordinator or manager review in all maintenance related areas.

Executes work assignments to departmental standards, specified, or professional practices, and procedures.

Demonstrates and maintains effective communicate on and collaboration with departmental team and hospital staff, visitors, and patients.

Performs activities in all of the department areas of responsibility.

Provides utilization with “Departmental Responsibility Criteria.” Primary being the majority of position’s activities will be utilized relative to the individual’s strongest area of expertise. Secondary being minimal hours will be utilized for activities not in the individual’s strongest area of expertise. Departmental being as directed activities based on new or unexpected circumstances.
