Job Description:
Plans, implements, and directs the activities of the nursing unit and oversees the operations and patient care activities of the hospital department in the absence of the department manager.Acts as a representative of administration in their absence.Responds to any and all emergencies within the hospital department and oversees and coordinates patient care, always acting in the best interest of the patient/family.
Oversees nursing and department staff in the absence of the Unit Nurse Manager.
Provides leadership through role modeling, mentoring, and coaching.
Acts as a communication liaison between administration and staff employees.
Demonstrates ability in problem solving by analyzing each situation and assessing available resources.
Formulates relationships with all departments to promote teamwork.
Participates as a team player in own department as well as working with other departments. Volunteers to serve on projects or committees.
Directs activities of the hospital department in accordance with hospital policies, objectives and any applicable local, state, and federal regulation. (Coroner notification, organ procurement, police notification, etc.)
Acts as a resource person for patients, families, and hospital and medical staff.
Adjusts staffing patterns to meet all census demands and emergency situations by ongoing assessment and evaluation.
Assists with direct patient care to ensure safe and effective care in all urgent and emergent situations.
Demonstrates proficiency in critical nursing skills; as well as specialty areas such as ER and ICU.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by calculating staffing needs based on acuity and emergent situations to ensure the most efficient and effective use of staff; reducing lost revenue through management of supplies.
Informs administration of any issues relating to strategic planning, patient care, finances, and potential liability issues.
Demonstrates above average patient and staff educational skills.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of departmental, Administrative, Function and Emergency Preparedness Policy and Procedures.
Attends Education/Orientation Day and 75% of department meetings and mandatory in-services.
Adheres to hospital dress code policies. Appearance is professional.
Provides age appropriate care for the following age groups: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel information as per hospital policy.
Maintains acceptable absenteeism/tardiness record per hospital policy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Current RN licensure in the state of Ohio. Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
Five (5) years’ staff nursing experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and recovery. Prefer leadership experience.
ACLS certification, BLS, and NRP required.
Basic computer knowledge and ability to use the keyboard for utilization of order entry system
Ability to deal with people in crisis and difficult situations.
Position requires corrected vision, corrected hearing, use of two hands and two feet, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling.
