Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position (2-3 sentences)

Follows guidelines as established by the ARRT, ODH, and ACR. Performs all diagnostic CT and diagnostic radiology exams according to established policy and procedure for interpretation and subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician. The technologist will be required to rotate between all BSMH facilities. Rotating call, shifts, weekend coverage, and holiday duty are required for this position. Due to the nature of the services and care provided at this institution, personnel may be requested to serve in related capacities as determined by their qualification in a different unit, department, and campus, in an effort to not disrupt patient care and continue to provide a safe environment to our patients.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all diagnostic CT and diagnostic radiology exams and procedures. Procedures include, but not limited to head, spine, extremity, abdominal, and some surgical procedures. Prioritizes exams on inpatients, outpatients and ED patients. Travels between facilities.

  • Assists physicians in CT procedures ensuring that sterile technique is adhered to. Follows timeout procedure. Scans patient, marks body, determines angle for puncture. Obtains history, explains exam, and addresses patient concerns. Administers contrast according to policy

  • Operates imaging equipment in the prescribed manner by setting the proper technique, collimation and protocol. Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered; ensures quality images. Completes paperwork timely. Uses PACS to send images for interpretation and storage. Able to print images or burn CD on request

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services. Maintains continuing education credits to meet licensure requirements

  • Transports patients to procedure room; prepares and maintains room. Provides service in a timely manner. Contacts service if indicated. Orders and stocks supplies

  • Follows rules and regulations pertaining to ODH QA program 3701:1-66, ODH Radiation protection standards 3701:1-38, ODH licensing requirements 3701-72

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Education:

Vocational/ Technical Degree

Specialty/Major:

Radiologic Technology

Preferred Education:

2 Year/ Associates Degree

Specialty/Major:

Licensure/Certification Required:

ARRT, ODH, CPR (BLS)

Licensure/Certification Preferred:

ARRT CT Registry

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

6 months experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred
