Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The primary responsibility of the BSMART Counselor Is to assist the ER physician and on-call psychiatrist with the disposition of patients who present with a psychiatric illness In the Emergency Room setting.
Employment Qualifications
Master's degree in social work or counseling,
LicensuresasaClinicalSocialWorker(LCSW)orProfessionalCounselor(LPC) preferred.
Work requires 2 years of demonstrated experience working with patients who have psychiatric Illness and chemical dependency..

•Demonstrates a high level of communication, organizational skills, and assessment skills and Is able to work independently.
- Demonstrate knowledge the utilization review process.
DI. Essential Job Functions
Establish collaborative practice with ED nursing personnel, physicians, and other community healthcare professionals regarding the disposition of psychiatric patients admitted to the ED. In addition, assists with the disposition of those patients Identified as high risk by the ED healthcare team.
Collaborates with the Emergency Department team to develop appropriate discharge plans or facilitates admission for the patient.
Involves patient family In the planning process and educates them regarding care options. Investigates level of care and financial resources In formulating plans. Collaborates post discharge care providers In the development transition plans. Obtains physician Involvement and agreement with plan. Advocates far patient choice.
Complete Case Management duties for behavioral health patients In the Emergency Department.
Initiates contact with Insurance agents, providing necessary Clinical Information and documentation, to
secure pre-.authorization for care prior to admission to a Bon Secours facilty.
Serves as a Peer interviewer and new hire orientation consuttant.
Understands data relative to patient populations and utilizes information to Improve quality and reduce
cost
Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department goals In dally work as evidenced by appropriate and timely communication which Is respectful and clear.

Actively participates it conferences, committees, and staff meetings.

12. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to Identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
Provide patient care to: pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients. Other Job Functions:
May participate In In-house crisis intervention when directed by psychiatrist or supervisor.
Other duties Assigned or requested by supervisor or Administrative Director of Behavioral Health.
