Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Paramedic provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

· ​Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN or Physician based on state and market guidelines.

· Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks including, but not limited to colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, identifies need and initiates CPR, foley catheter placement, identifies patients in crises or decline and alerts RN for further assessments, and other unit-based specialty duties base on state and department guidelines under the direction of an RN.

· Completes patient rounding as assigned.

· Assists with giving patient instructions and discharge, Administers medication in a safe manner consistent with the State Scope of Practice and Organization Policies and Procedures per market guidelines.

· Completes patient rounding as assigned.

· Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.

· Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.

· Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.

· Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.

· Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.

· Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.

· Collects data, within scope.

· Completes patient screenings as applicable.

· Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.

· Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.

· Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.

Licensing/Certification

BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support and PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire)

Current paramedic-level certification (required)

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (required)

Work Experience

1 Year Paramedic (required)

2-3 Year Paramedic experience (preferred)

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.​

Working Conditions
