Roper St. Francis Medical Nail Technician - RSFPP Orthopedics - North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley - Podiatry in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

This position rotates to West Ashley, Mount Pleasant and North Charleston locations.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Medical Nail Technician is a skilled clinical professional that provides indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and in alignment with the standards of excellence and quality. Under the direct supervision of a Podiatrist, the Medical Nail Technician contributes to the completion of the patient’s chief complaint (including but not limited to providing direct non-surgical foot and toenail care), documenting the patient’s needs, and participating in planning and implementing care for patients.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepares them for exam or consult with Podiatrist.

  • Debrides and thins toenails as directed.

  • Identifies significant changes in the condition of patients’ feet through data collection and reports them to the provider.

  • Demonstrates standards of excellence in patient care in all interactions.

  • Instructs patients and family members in self-care of foot; provides pre-printed educational materials to patients and families; documents instructional interventions and patient responses.

  • Maintains clinical and administrative skills per the departmental competency guidelines to meet patient care and daily operational needs.

  • Manages in basket messages in the electronic health record (EHR) under the Provider’s verbatim instructions.

  • Provide authorized prescription and drug refill information for pharmacies as directed by provider.

  • Successfully completes skills or competency checklists to be able to help physicians examine and treat patients, performing such tasks as handing them instruments, removing sutures, changing dressings on wounds.

Licensing/Certification

  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required)

  • Nail Technician License (preferred)

Education

  • High School/GED (required)

Work Experience

  • 1 year of experience in a podiatry setting (preferred)

  • Ability to use standard office equipment (i.e. computer, copier, phone, fax machine)
