POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Dietician provides care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs in accordance with the mission of St. Rita’s Medical Center and within the scope of the Ohio Dietary Practice Act. The RD will incorporate the core values of St. Rita’s Medical Center (Excellence, Human Dignity, Justice, Mercy, Sacredness of Life and Service) into their daily practices. The RD, functioning in the spirit of teamwork, is accountable for the delivery of dietary care using evidence based standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. The RD assesses, develops, implements and monitors the dietary plan of care and coordinates this with all other applicable providers. This requires awareness of all diagnoses and seeking input when needed. The RD assists patients to achieve and maintain quality, cost-effective goals by modifying dietary

variables. Also, the RD assumes a personal responsibility for professional growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

% Time

  • 10% Obtains and follows through with physician referral for medical nutrition therapy.

  • 10% Assumes responsibility of collecting appropriate data necessary to familiarize self with patient's medical history and diagnostic test result.

  • 10% Assesses clinical endpoints that relate to disease state control with special focus on nutritional habits that could impact these endpoints.

  • 10% Identifies needs in areas such as socioeconomic, family resource, and knowledge.

  • 10% Creates effective teaching tools to present concepts to the patient.

  • 10% Accurately reports variances in patient physical and/or emotional condition to the appropriate provider. Sends out updates to referring physician on a routine basis.

  • 10% Assumes responsibility for carrying out orders. Assumes responsibility of assuring patient/family understanding of all orders.

  • 10% Identifies and/or coordinates follow-up visits or phone calls.

  • 10% Establishes and maintains charges for clinic interventions.

  • 10% Performs all duties and functions satisfactorily as outlined in competency guidelines.

Required Minimum Education : 4 Year/Bachelors Specialty/Major: Dietetics

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

Required: Registered as a dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the American Dietetic Association (or registry-eligible); Licensed by the Ohio Board of Dietetics. Must take and pass the CDE exam after 1,000 hours of diabetes teaching and 2 years of employment in diabetes care. BLS certification required.

Preferred: Obesity certification preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 1-3 years of previous experience as a Registered Dietitian

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must maintain CE requirements needed for ADA recognition and/or certification for all Chronic Care Services.

This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills for patients in the following age categories:

Child: 1-12 years

Adolescent: 13-17 years

Adult: 18-64 years

Working Conditions:

  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.

  • General office environment: works generally at a desk in a well-lighted, air conditioned office area, with moderate noise levels.

  • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.

  • May be constantly interrupted; requiring changing from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
