Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The MRI Tech Assistant is responsible for answering the phone, communicating with patients, families and other staff, verifying scripts and patient schedules. They conduct patient interviews to acquire patient history; assist with getting patients on and off the scanning tables; assist with the clinical monitoring of patients; assist with transporting patients to and from the department; cleans and stocks rooms, and other general duties as needed.
Essential Job Functions
• Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation; demonstrates flexibility to fluctuation in workload.
• Maintains controlled access to the magnet room.
• Professionally interacts with physicians, technologist, physician offices, hospital staff, patient family members and
patients.
• Confirms information accurately at time of appointment check-in.
• Prepares MRI cases by verifying information on outside exams and scanning patient authorization forms for personal
health information.
• Greets and escorts patients to changing room; reviewing paperwork and briefly explaining procedure. Upon exam
completion, escort patient to dressing room, clean and prep exam room for next procedure.
• Assists with timely workflow by having the next patient ready before the current patient’s exam is complete.
• Assists technologists with screening patients: Inpatients, Emergency Room patients, and Outpatients.
• Alerts technical staff regarding patient implants, reveled through safety screening, or written documentation and any
other safety concerns.
• Assists technologists with patient positioning and equipment.

Licensing/Certification
BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care) (required)
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
Work Experience
1 year of experience in MRI department in hospital setting (preferred)
Training
EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred)
