DIRECTOR OF LAB | GREENVILLE, SC

The Director of Laboratory Services oversees all daily laboratory and compliance functions of the Bon Secours Mercy Health Greenville region laboratory locations and other duties assigned. The Regional Director of Laboratory, with the direction of the Executive Director Laboratory Services, Regional COO and respective Lab Medical Directors, assumes the responsibility for the development of long term strategic and operational plans for all laboratory modalities at all sites: manages human, financial, and capital resources: collaboratively works with nurse managers, physicians, other professionals and staff to implement and evaluate standards of patient care and organizational standards: controls expenses and productivity for laboratory and grows net revenue for laboratory services: communicates regional operations, information and mission objectives to all staff; ensures proper education, training, and development of staff, availability of supplies, oversees quality improvement activities; and monitors job performance and competency.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • 40% : Provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight to ensure the achievement of MH mission and the living of its values by every member of the laboratory services, including exemplary patient and customer experience. Manages human, capital and supply expenses for the laboratory in a manner consistent with MH's plan

  • 20% : Provides planning, direction, and leadership to ensure regional outreach growth and competitiveness, effective 24-hour hospital operations; and effective outreach operations to grow net revenue for laboratory services

  • 30% : Utilizes human, financial material and environmental resources consistent with stewardship values and the strategic objectives of the organization. Identifies success factors and determines strategies for achievement. Monitors and evaluates quality of care in collaboration with medical director, Executive Director, managers, Regional COO, and MH's quality improvement program, takes corrective action when needed. Develops, recommends, and administers department operating and capital expense budgets and ensures that department(s) operates within budget; identifies and implements appropriate cost-effective measures on a continuous basis. Recommends the acquisition, use and organization of available resources to ensure the provision of efficient laboratory services. Assumes responsibility for meeting stated financial goals. Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment that is in compliance with all safety standards and disaster plans.

  • 10% : Promotes and initiates performance improvement activities. Provides reports, recommendations and action plans needed to meet goals, Joint Commission, CAP and other required standards and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires an advanced level of knowledge generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, which includes successful completion of a supervised one-year clinical internship. Certification required through an accredited certifying agency (i.e, ASCP, NCA, AMT).

  • Requires proven leadership and management skills in a customer-oriented environment (hospital and non-hospital), including, but not limited to, team building, communication skills, computer skills, business skills, organizational skills, and strategic thinking.

  • Completion of an accredited program in clinical laboratory science.
