Location: The Roper Learning Center - Farmfield Ave Charleston, SC

Shift: 6:00am - 3:00pm

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

  • Responsible for managing assistant teachers to include but not limited to: scheduling staffing, evaluating performance, approving time off requests and making recommendations for corrective actions if needed.

  • Support the lead and assistant teachers in implementing a developmentally appropriate program.

  • Provide orientation and training for new staff.

  • Mentor and coach staff to ensure quality care of children.

  • Facilitate positive interactions among children based on developmentally appropriate practices.

  • Exhibit fairness, respect and impartiality toward all children, parents and teammates.

  • Assists in establishing policies and procedures that ensure the well-being of children, such as: Developmentally appropriate curriculum, Positive Behavior Management plans, and Safe arrival and departure.

  • Protect and enhance the health and safety of the children.

  • Ensure child/staff ratios are in compliance with policies and regulations.Ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the classrooms and work environment.Ensure indoor and outdoor environments are safe, clean and attractive.

  • Ensure parents are well informed about the program and are welcome as observers and contributors.

  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere for parents and communicate with parents to ensure smooth transitions and about childrearing practices to minimize potential conflicts.Conduct pre-enrollment orientation visits with families.Facilitate communications between teachers and parents.Establishes relationships with children and families and is responsive to their needs.

  • Assume administrative duties to ensure the Center functions efficiently and effectively.

  • Maintains a level of professionalism appropriate to the field of early childhood education.

The Coordinator is responsible for opening the Center and assisting in the care, education and development of infants and children, both in a group situation and on an individual basis. Assists in the ordering and distribution of food and other supplies. Ensures that the center meets all licensing requirements and maintains the facility in accordance with licensing standards, including but not limited to: Standards of health and safety, learning environment, nutrition and food, physical safety and well-being of children, and fire regulations. Recommends, investigates and assists in the implementation of quality improvement projects. Represent the center in the community and act as liaison with other centers and child services. Assists the Director with special projects as assigned and makes necessary decisions in the absence of the Director regarding center activities.

Licensing/Certification

  • DSS regulations requires that CPR and First Aid certification by the National Safety Council be successfully completed within 90 days of employment.

Education

  • High School Graduate or GED. ECDC 101 from a recognized college

Work Experience

  • At least 4 years of experience in a child care center as a teacher or administrator required.

  • N/A

Skills

Communicates effectively with children and adults. Strong oral and written skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Ezycare 2004 programs. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Must be self-directed and able to work independently. Must receive 10 hours of approved childcare administrative training within 12 months of employment.
