Roper St. Francis Stroke Program Coord - Quality & Clinical Outcomes - Roper Hospital - Charleston, SC - Shift 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM - West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, Summerville in Charleston, South Carolina

Exempt, Full-time; Schedule: Monday-Friday

This position occasionally visits the four hospital locations - Summerville, West Ashley, downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant.

Job Summary:

In collaboration with medical and clinical staff, this position is responsible for the coordination of evidence-based, high quality stroke care across the Roper St. Francis Healthcare system. The Stroke Program Coordinator guides and facilitates the development and implementation of protocols, educational activities, and community involvement that perpetuates and strengthens the system’s position in the South Carolina Stroke System of Care. The Stroke Program Coordinator also partners with physicians, rehab, nursing, radiology, the Department of Quality and Patient Safety, local and regional EMS providers, and community resources to further the provision of stroke care within Roper St. Francis Healthcare. This position is responsible for monitoring clinical performance criteria and assuring compliance with stroke regulatory requirements, including disease-specific certifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing. BSN required; MSN highly preferred.

Experience: At least 3 years of clinical experience. Experience in neuroscience nursing in related settings is highly preferred. Experience as a stroke program coordinator or in stroke program development is desirable. Stroke coordinator experience preferred, neuroscience nursing experience preferred, and/or quality improvement experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or holds a current compact/multi-state license as a Registered Nurse in a recognized NCSBN Compact State and is not a permanent resident of SC. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. Certification in neuroscience nursing (CNRN) or critical care nursing (CCRN), as well as NIHSS certification is desirable.

Knowledge/Skills: Thorough knowledge of adult neuroscience and stroke treatment, care, and prevention. Broad clinical knowledge, excellent patient assessment skills and problem-solving ability are foundational. Knowledge of TJC Primary Stroke Center certification requirements, quality measures, and processes. Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communications skills. Thorough knowledge of current evidence-based practice and standards of care for neuroscience and stroke patient populations and maintenance of related educational and credentialing requirements. Knowledge of the professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, hospital, medical staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Other: Ability to collect, analyze, and present data in meaningful ways.
