Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Stewardship Director is responsible for executing and monitoring comprehensive donor stewardship strategies that appropriately and consistently ensure donors understand the impact of their support and have positive experiences that build loyalty, engagement, and support for the organization. The Stewardship Director will help to determine and implement the best individual and broad strategies for effective stewardship of donors. The Stewardship Director will work closely with frontline fundraisers, donor communications, and annual giving teams to ensure that workflows and projects are in line with the current priorities of the organization. 

This position will oversee the processing of all received revenue for the Foundation Office and will work with highly confidential and sensitive information. The Stewardship Director will also be responsible for overseeing the reporting on YTD Fundraising progress and building a comprehensive gift processing and acknowledgment strategy. This role will be responsible for independent problem solving and performing duties with high-quality service, utmost courtesy, and confidentiality, using a group-process approach to accomplishing work. 

Essential Job Functions

Stewardship Program Design and Implementation (60%)

  • Leads the implementation of the fiscal year plan for donor stewardship in coordination with the Senior Director of Development and the Communications and Stewardship Director. 

  • Serves as lead project manager of the strategy and execution of stewardship activities for individual donors, including development of quarterly newsletters, annual reports, stewardship mailings, acknowledgement, and holiday cards. Tasks include content direction and drafting, timeline creation and adherence, vendor management and cross-organization collaboration. 

  • Develops individual donor stewardship plans for the organization’s most consequential donors alongside the Senior Director of Development, as needed. 

  • Works closely with Development Associates to execute mailings and other stewardship activities. 

  • Collaborates with Senior Director of Development, Communications and Stewardship Director and Annual Fund Director to develop new and innovative strategies for donor stewardship. 

_Managing Fund Compliance Program Manager and Development Associate (Gift Processing) (30%) _  

  • Leading and building a comprehensive gift processing and acknowledgment strategy. 

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Development and Foundation President, provide guidance to account holders on matching fund usage to fund intent.  

  • Oversee monthly revenue intake and closing of the Foundation books each month and reporting to finance; ensuring all income is recorded accurately and is dispersed to the correct sub funds. Oversee the release of funds in accordance with donor intent. 

Administrative (10%)

  • Oversees systems that are in place to track activities, record processes, and store files. 

  • Provides oversight of database management for donor stewardship activities. 

  • Evaluates and responds to requests related to donor stewardship. 

  • Supports execution of virtual and in-person events on an as-needed basis.
