Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Senior Buyer is responsible for maintaining the ordering, ensuring customer service integrity for the assigned areas and working closely with the material management staff. Obtain a general knowledge base of the items to better support the needs of your assigned area. The Senior Buyer is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, budgeting, implementation and control of the resources required for purchases. Ensure special needed items are ordered and received prior to a scheduled procedure. The Senior Buyer is responsible for the purchase, tracking, inventory levels and storage of items, equipment, materials etc., and will have internal audit responsibilities to ensure the integrity of pricing for billing charges.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for the negotiation and purchase of all items/equipment for assigned area. Ensures that various resources are used in order to receive the best possible pricing and terms for equipment purchases.

  • Responsible for maintaining and accurate accounting of purchases made and received. Ensures that the process for equipment purchases and storage of equipment through are within the guidelines and properly stored for security and safety purposes.

  • Responsible for assisting in the development and execution of an annual business plan that includes financial, operational, and customer satisfaction objectives, in coordination with overall corporate mission, goals and strategies.

  • Responsible for the management, movement, and storage of all assets (equipment and furniture). Ensures that proper disposal methods for equipment and furniture are followed. Responsible for notifying finance when equipment or furnishing are sold or donated.

  • Responsible for filling in for the purchasing supervisor in his/ her absence. To include supervision of employees as appropriate, time and attendance, training and education, and the follow up of policy and procedure issues.

  • Responsible for identifying customer needs and makes changes to meet them; facilitates innovation and creativity. Provides excellent customer service and assistance to Department Directors, Service line directors, Physicians, and Executive staff.

Licensing/Certification

  • Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) (required)

  • Certified Materials & Resource Professional through American Hospital Association (preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required (required)

Work Experience

  • At least four years progressive purchasing or materials management experience (required)

  • Additional training in supervision or management (preferred)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting. Frequently requires long periods of working at a computer. Intermittent walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. No exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Normal office environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend.

                                                 

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills :

  • Must have a thorough understanding of purchasing methods and procedures.

  • Must possess knowledge of Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI).

  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, general knowledge of reading blueprints for construction projects, and communicate in a clear, concise and understandable manner.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows environment, Excel, and ability to operate standard office equipment.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to thrive in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Work is performed independently under the general direction of the Purchasing Manager and Director of Materials Services.
