Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Vice President/President of the Roper St. Francis Foundation, the Senior Director of Grant Services will establish and advance philanthropic partnerships with external organizations that align with Roper St. Francis Foundation mission, vision, and priorities. He or she will identify, qualify, solicit, and steward private foundations, corporate partners, and government agencies requiring grant contracts and proposals to support system priority initiatives. This role is responsible for $10M+ in annual external funding from grants, foundations, and corporate partners, with a minimum of 20% of the number of annual awards to derive from new sources yearly.

This position oversees system-wide management of grant submissions and funded award administration, providing leadership, consultation, and support for initiatives and collaborations throughout the grants lifecycle from risk assessment to pre- and post-award activities and award closeout. Duties include identifying and collaborating with clinical and administrative program managers to develop viable grant concepts, activities, and budgets; preparing and submitting final proposals; documenting grant contracts and sub-contracts; and overseeing funded grants administration to ensure grant compliance as well as financial accountability. Leads efforts to ensure grant-related internal controls are in place to regularly monitor and update system compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include identification of viable funding opportunities; concept and proposal planning and development; application approvals and submissions; award negotiations; and oversight of post-award program management.

This position will ensure the timely development, submission, and management of grants and contracts and applying best practices for tracking, acknowledging, stewarding, and reporting to our government and institutional partners. Position will be responsible for managing and overseeing a team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for a $10M+ in annual grant revenue from government, foundation, and corporate partners, with a minimum of 30% of annual funding awards to derive from new sources.

  • Work to identify and cultivate new institutional supporters, create timely and compelling solicitations, and ensure proposals align with the strategic priorities and goals of Roper St. Francis Foundation.

  • Work closely with Foundation leadership, system lead clinicians and administrators, grant program managers, and the Grants Services staff to coordinate all grant solicitation activities to include RFP reviews and application submissions, concept development, deadline management, reporting requirements and communication plan.

  • Oversee development of a strategic annual grants calendar of potential opportunities and deadlines.

  • Prepare regular and annual reports on grants activity for the Foundation board and foundation reports using Raiser’s Edge reports and funded partner data.

  • Research and disperse best and emerging health care practices and priorities and grant development and management practices.

  • Negotiate grant award terms and conditions and maintain relationships with funding agencies to monitor compliance throughout the life of the grant.

  • For funded awards, instruct grant program manager on award terms and conditions and monitor institutional compliance with funding agency reporting and accountability requirements.

  • Oversee top-quality stewardship to grantors who invest in Roper St. Francis each year.

  • Related responsibilities include providing personalized outreach and invitations to relevant events and experiences, coordinating grantor recognition efforts with the communications team, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of all grant-related paperwork

  • Serve as the system’s lead official ensuring compliance with OMB 2 CFR 200 and Uniform Guidance requirements.

  • Lead efforts to ensure grant-related policies and procedures are in place to monitor and update system compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Responsibilities include serving as system Authorized Official Representative for federal awards, identification of viable funding opportunities; concept and proposal planning and development; application approvals and submissions; award negotiations; and oversight of post-award program management.

  • Encourage and educate RSFH staff on how to develop strategically aligned potential grant projects through workshops, seminars, and other internal educational activities.

  • Lead and supervise a team including a Grants Accountant, Grants Coordinator, Grants Director and Development Associate.

Licensing/Certification

  • Grant Professionals Certification through the GPC Institute Preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of direct fundraising and fundraising management experience (required)

Work Experience

  • 10 years of grants solicitation and grants and contracts management experience

  • Experience in six-figure-plus donor proposal or grant-writing (required)

  • Three to five years of grant management, institutional fundraising, and corporate partnership experience (preferred)

                                                     

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills :

  • Demonstrated ability to develop compelling proposals and reports with a focus on health care, science, and medicine.

  • Experience in establishing strategies to identify and qualify private foundations, corporate partners, and government agencies.

  • Success in creating and executing a strategic development plan for soliciting, securing, and stewarding gifts from external partners.

  • Experience in establishing a pipeline of supporters and managing a portfolio of at least 50-75 donors.

  • Demonstrated success in portfolio management, prospect qualification, analytics, and research.

  • Proven project management skills.

  • Experience using reporting tools, design software, and donor management software.

  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software systems (including RENXT and Research Point).

  • Experience with fundraising database and knowledge of prospecting tools and reports within fundraising systems or other prospective donor relations systems, e.g., Raiser's Edge, Sales Force, etc.

  • Success working on teams to develop high-level proposals with funding opportunities across disciplines.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to work independently, but also function as part of a team and contribute to the goals of the full team

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects.

  • Proven self-starter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgments.
