THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT ROPER HOSPITAL (DOWNTOWN)

HOURS: 8:00am - 4:30pm, includes every other weekend

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Shift Environmental Service Supervisor is responsible for all housekeeping operations for assigned shift. Responsibilities include supervising Environmental Service teammates and to set measurable goals and standards that achieves excellent quality, patient, and associate satisfaction results, control expense cost by monitoring supply usage and inventory levels. Establish a positive working relationship with all EVS teammates, Engineering, Safety, Infection Control and all Clinical Managers through daily rounding.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assigns personnel to established work areas and conduct environmental rounds. Conducts formal and informal patient room and supporting area inspections to ensure quality control relative to products, systems, procedures and methods. Follow through on special work requests, problems and complaints. Plans and coordinates personnel on project work to ensure that proper frequencies are maintained.

  • Responsible for the efficient and effective utilization of assigned personnel, equipment and supplies. Staff sign in/out sheets, keys and beepers (ensure beepers and keys are turned in at end of shift). Monitors supply inventory and overtime. Meet budget performance standards, striving to achieve and maintain performance in the upper 25th percentile of comparative data. Maintain accurate and up to date records of environmental service activities in all areas and records are to be turned in to Manager at the end of each month.

  • Proactive approach to identifying and correcting facility’s quality assurance concerns with timely follow-up is required. Evaluating and improving services on an on-going basis utilizing FOCUS – PDCA methodology.

  • Ensure that staff receives proper orientation, initial training, and ongoing education. Ensure that proper supply control guidelines are followed and staff is trained in the use of all chemicals. Train/retain staff, ensure staff mandatory, PPD’s and Age Specific updated.

  • Maintaining frequent and effective lines of communications with all departments and customers ofEnvironmental Services.

Work Experience

  • Two years of external Environmental Services experience OR 1 year of internal RSFH EVS experience (required)

  • Prior supervisory experience (preferred)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Constant standing. Frequent walking. Frequent lifting, moving or carrying up to 25 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Intermittent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, toxic substances, biohazardous materials and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Constant exposure to wet or humid (non-weather) conditions. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Intermittent exposure to risk of electrical shock. Moderate to loud noise level in work area. Requires hand-eye coordination.

                                                              

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills :

  • Excellent Customer Service skills and communication skills (written, verbal, electronic, etc).

  • Basic computer skills to include at a minimum: spreadsheet, word processing, HBOC and job-related software.

  • Proficient in handling all types of transports, proper body mechanics.

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of all work-related information.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Self directed and able to work independently

  • Posses organizational and leadership abilities

  • Able to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and possess the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment
