Roper St. Francis Bed Placement Assistant - Bon Secours St Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Bed Placement Assistant gathers appropriate information from patients or responsible parties in order to completely register admissions in a timely manner. This role may perform patient pre-admission, registration, room assignment/transfer, and other related required tasks for patient throughput and patient care. May assist in preparing documentation regarding quality, customer service, and other organizational initiatives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Patient intake: Greet customers using AIDET and excellent customer service. Answer multiple phone lines and file documentation for patients. Review the scheduling system to assist patients. Review the scheduling system to assist patients. Provide parking tickets and providedirection to patients, visitors, and guests of Roper Saint Francis Healthcare.

  • Assists with coordination of all admissions from ER, physicians’ offices, surgery and procedures with the goal of getting the patient to the optimal patient care setting. Promotes “right sizing” the hospital: Placing the right patient in the right bed at the right time.

  • Ensures room turnover is efficient and expedient by assisting with notification of bed priority. Communicates clearly with all departments.

  • Registrations: Perform registrations in a timely mannerproviding for safe patient care. Identification of STAT patients within the ER and the timely notification to clinical department. This includes, but is not limited to, STEMI’s , Hot/Cold Stokes, Labor and Delivery, and Stat patients.

  • Assists with determining real time bed availability and communicates with departments involved in closing or reopening beds.

  • Maintains current knowledge on evidence-based standards to expedite interventions to ensure optimal outcomes.

Licensing/Certification

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent (required)

Work Experience

  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting (required)

  • Prior patient registration / bed management experience (preferred)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting, walking, standing, stooping, bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 25 lbs. May require pushing or pulling over 50 lbs (wheelchair/carts, etc.). Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Possible exposure to infectious materials, odors, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours.

Skills

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills :

  • Knowledgeable in all patient registration functions including outpatient, emergency room, and inpatient. Basic knowledge of health insurance helpful.

  • May be required to work weekends and holidays.

  • May be asked to cover outside their normally scheduled hours.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Skills in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, collaboration and problem solving.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Competent and proficient with patient information systems.
