  • Join our team today!• Higher Pay Scales• Flexible Schedule to live the life you deserve• Rewarding Higher Differentials with working on the Weekend SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Oncology registered dietitians (RDs) provide nutritional consultation to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience including primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence and palliative care. Assesses patients' nutritional needs, all levels of nutrition risk, in a timely manner. Monitors and reevaluates patient needs. Maintains required documentation. Provides nutrition education to patients/families, co-workers, and interdisciplinary team members, individually and in groups. Takes responsibility for units assigned. Performs all functions related to the nutritional care of patients, including provision of food, performance improvement, patient satisfaction, and department/MH projects and activities. Works together and closely with clinical nutrition staff members and interdisciplinary team to meet requirements of patient care while displaying good management and communication skills. Effectively prioritizes daily, monthly, and annual work assignments. Follows established policy and procedure. Has the ability to work under minimal supervision. Interfaces and keeps open communication with medical staff, all levels of management, interdisciplinary team members, and other employees. Is accountable for self-learning and self­ improvement Reports to CNM and to Director of Nutrition Services Department, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

  • College graduate

  • Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian in the State of Ohio by passing test and annually completing required CE requirements

  • Oncology Certified or eligible through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years experience in clinical nutrition, preferably in an outpatient oncology setting

  • Computer literacy

  • Demonstrated leadership skills through committee participation and presentations

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • In depth knowledge of food and clinical nutrition

  • In depth knowledge of oncology nutrition

  • Must be able to read, follow instructions, and use advanced math skills

  • Mustbeflexible,adapteasily to changes in schedule, work assignments, and environment

  • Must complete the required departmental orientation/training program within the probationary period

  • Ability to lead a project from beginning to end

  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze data

  • Interprets and uses complicated information within established standards

  • Develops and presents technical and non-technical information to individuals and groups

  • Teaches individuals and groups of all ages and educational backgrounds

  • Effectively communicates with patients and healthcare professionals

PRINCIPLE JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Follows the American Dietetic Association: Revised Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for Registered Dietitians (Generalist, Specialty, and Advanced) in Oncology Nutrition Care

  • Implement nutrition screening system for cancer patients undergoing active treatment.

  • Provide individualized nutrition assessments, counseling and nutrition recommendations based on patients 'specific therapies and nutrition needs.

  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team patient-care rounds for cancer patients.

  • Provide ongoing nutrition classes for patients and in-services for staff addressing nutrition topics and research pertinent to cancer patients.

  • Collaborate with other health professionals as appropriate and develop nutrition education and resource materials as needed.

  • Attend education programs to maintain status as effective and knowledgeable resource regarding patients' nutrition needs.

  • Assesses, reassesses, plans interventions, monitors , and evaluates nutritional needs for patients Evaluation includes physical assessment as needed to assess nutritional status.

  • Documents pertinent information in the patient chart according to policy.

  • Writesaconcise and accurate nutrition diagnosis.

  • Develops and maintains interdisciplinary nutrition-related care plans.

  • Calculatescomplicatedmodifieddiets and nutrition support needs, and makes appropriate recommendations.

  • Interviews patients for special needs and shows evidence of exceeding patient satisfaction standards.

  • Educates patients and families about their nutritional needs, using appropriate educational materials, and records in the interdisciplinary teaching record.

  • Participates in pt. care conferences, rounds, and interdisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.

  • Provides nutrition education to patient groups/classes , individual outpatients, community, and other clients.

  • Is a resource for Dietetic Technicians and performs supervisory role as needed.

  • Conducts patient rounds for the purpose of data collection, evaluation of foodservice and clinical practice, problem resolution, and improved patient safety and satisfaction.

  • Participates in the development of performance improvement projects and consistently performs activities/reporting related to the same.

  • Meets competencies per policy related to productivity, quality of chatting, teaching, age-related assessments/teaching, chart audits/peer reviews, CEU and in-service activities, community service.

  • CompletesMandatory Safety test, TB testing, and any other hospital-required activities.JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES - Other:

  • Demonstrates awareness of and compliance to regulatory professional practice agencies such as TJC, EPA, OSHA, ODH, AOA, county and local agencies.

  • Actively participates in HMHP-sponsored presentations, committees and projects.

  • Acts as a teacher, preceptor, and reference person for students, interns, residents, Dietetic Technicians, Registered Dietitians and other staff members.

  • Inspires, motivates, and models supportive behaviors to the organization, to the department management, to co-workers, and to all patients and staff; promotes a positive climate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Walking and standing throughout the day: provides clinical coverage several hospital units.

  • Carrying reference materials, some lifting usually small objects, delivering food service items, transporting community educational materials.

  • Working at computer throughout the day, as well as personal work area in clinical nutrition office; may carry and use laptop computer.

  • Travelwithin MH systemandincommunity as needed.

  • Traveloutside MHsystem for peer review and/or continuing education as appropriate.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responsible for own professional/personal growth and development.

  • Maintains clinical expertise by:attending continuing education sessions and/or completing CE courses and readings per the American Dietetic Association Commission on Dietetic Registration (75 hours in 5 year reporting periods), and becoming member of ADA annually,to provide safe and up-to-date care to patients and to serve as resource for department and hospital staff.

  • Develops, presents, and participates in hospital and departmental meetings and in-services to maintain and advance food and nutrition knowledge of self and others. Applies for CEU credit with ADA as appropriate.

  • Attends seminars, conferences , or meetings outside of Mercy Health periodically to enhance knowledge and awareness .

  • Maintains licensure with Ohio Board of Dietetics, annually.
